Armada Pipe Cleaner Ski Details
This ski is designed specifically for use in the halfpipe. Each year this is one of the most popular skis in the halfpipe and it is used by pro skiers throughout the world.
The ski has a width of 85mm directly under foot. This characteristic makes this ski a little bit to narrow to be used in powder. The sidecut and materials used make this a great ski for groomed runs and corduroy. The ski performs best in the halfpipe and on groomers. As you will see below, the base is not tough enough for rails in the terrain park. It is just too delicate.
Pipe Cleaner Ski Materials
The pipe cleaner uses the Armada Comp Series Base. As it is described on their own website, this is a "High maintenance base" that is designed for racing and speed. It is not meant to be taken into rough terrain where you might encounter rocks (or terrain park rails). This has led to some complaints from buyers who have ripped up the bottoms of their skis quickly. The edge (2.5 impact edge) and core (ARcore2) of the ski are designed more consistently with what is expected from a park ski of this caliber.
The Pipe Cleaner also has a carbon re-enforced tail. This characteristic makes the ski stiffer, and can help a skier maintain their body position if they land a jump while leaning back too far.
